Eileen says, “Hello there..
My name is Eileen Kelly and I have been volunteering for Radio Halton since summer 2016. I'm originally from St Helens but have lived in Runcorn for most of my life. I was lucky enough to take early retirement from my civil service job a few years ago so decided to take on a volunteer role. I'm a bit of a music addict, probably due to having a sister who worked in a record shop and a part time DJ brother!
The opportunity to volunteer for Radio Halton was my dream job. I love chatting to patients on the wards and collecting requests on my rounds on Friday mornings. It's such a rewarding role, particularly when you see patients improving week on week and preparing to finally go home. I like to try and vary the music I play but I must admit that I am a bit obsessed with the 70s and soul and disco. Outside of Radio Halton, I help out at St Helens stroke club, enjoy walking, and am a member of the Warrington Rock Choir (not as a soloist I should add!)."
A highlight of Eileen’s time here so far has been interviewing Elio Pace in November 2017, ahead of his “Billy Joel Songbook” concert at The Brindley in Runcorn. She’s a big Billy Joel fan, but was also interested to know about Elio himself and his songwriting.
