Hello I'm Mark Thomas.  I was born in the Isle of Man and live in Halton.  I visit the wards and present the afternoon shows on Wednesday 2 'til 4 and Saturdays 11 'til 1. My first interest in music was listening to my dad's vinyl collection.  I came across a Carpenters album and loved Karen Carpenter’s voice and all her songs.  I always wanted to be on radio or be a continuity presenter on TV.  My wish came true when I was 16 at Whiston Hospital radio

I helped out at Radio City in Liverpool with Pete Waterman from PWL Music.  I was lucky to meet some of the artists that worked for him, my favourite was meeting Sonia.  I went on to work for numerous radio stations, including Radio Wave in Blackpool.  I have interviewed Barry Cryer and Sir Ken Dodd, I also interviewed the cast of Les Miserables when it first was shown at Palace Theatre in Manchester

I had a break from radio for a while, before I have got the opportunity to volunteer for Hospital Radio Halton when I joined in January 2017.  I enjoy visiting the patients on the wards and working with all the team. I play a variety of music from past and present and always willing to play requests for patients and staff.  Recently a member of staff commented to keep up the good work and that the music made her day go quicker

My interests

I love holidays home and abroad, being particularly fond of Canada, since I have family there. I have visited New York and really enjoyed the sightseeing. My aim is to visit again soon. I do like weekends away. I have good memories of Cornwall when my parents would take me and my sister to St Ives, it is such a lovely place

I enjoy eating out in restaurants, my favourite food is Chinese and Indian.  But if I'm totally honest my favourite meal from being a child was fish fingers, chips and beans in British Home Stores!

I love TV comedies like The Good Life, Open all Hours, Are you being served, Only fools and horses, Porridge, Blackadder and Gavin and Stacey.  My favourite comedians are Lee Evans, Tom O'Connor and the late Victoria Wood. Games shows are also good, The Generation Game, The Chase and Would I lie to you.  I still find myself laughing to the Morecambe and Wise shows and the brillant Two Ronnies. I love Carry On films and have the full collection on DVD

I do some swimming at weekends and love the James Herbert books. I enjoy spending time with my family and close friends

My priority when I'm presenting on radio is to make other people happy by way of playing their favourite music and maybe bringing back some memories

Listen to Mark on Radio Halton on Wednesday afternoons from 2 'til 4 and
on Saturdays from 11 'til 1
